OBSERVATION CHAMBER / MVP

Radon Transform Scanner

A visual Radon-transform model for observing projection data, sinograms, backprojection, filtered comparison, and noisy measurement effects.

radon Prototype

RADON TRANSFORM SCANNER

Scan a phantom from many angles, stack the shadows into a sinogram, and watch a visual backprojection model recover the hidden structure.
OBSERVING
First observation Use SCAN to add projection angles, SINO to read the sinogram, and COMPARE to contrast plain and filtered backprojection.
PHANTOM / SINOGRAM / BACKPROJECTION
angles 24 / samples 72
OBS-000 / SCAN / 00:00

SYSTEM NOTE

Shadows can remember an interior.

This chamber is a visual approximation of projection data, sinogram accumulation, and backprojection. It is not a clinical CT tool or a rigorous reconstruction solver.

OBSERVATION POINTS

Projection, sinogram, reconstruction.

  • SCAN records one more angle of line-integral data.
  • SINO shows the accumulated projection rows as a sinogram.
  • RECON smears projections back into the image plane so the phantom begins to reappear.
  • FILTERED and COMPARE show why edge-weighted projection data can recover sharper boundaries.

SYSTEM NOTE

R_f(theta, s) = integral f(x, y) delta(s - x cos theta - y sin theta) dx dy. The chamber reads projections as line integrals, stacks them into a sinogram, then visualizes simple and filtered backprojection as observation models.

OBSERVATION GUIDE

Touchpoints for Observation

Observe how many one-dimensional shadows can carry information about a hidden two-dimensional phantom.

  • Use SCAN to collect projection rows, SINO to read the sinogram, RECON to smear shadows back into the plane, and FILTERED or COMPARE to see the edge-weighted reconstruction cue.
  • Angles increase the number of projection directions.
  • Samples increase the resolution along each detector line.
  • Noise makes the sinogram rougher, which makes the reconstruction less certain.

This is a visual approximation of Radon-transform reconstruction. It is not a clinical CT tool and not a rigorous numerical reconstruction solver.
